Getting Rid of False Thoughts

When I was seven, I fought a battle with false thoughts.

Now, you're probably wondering, what kind of false thoughts could a seven-year-old think?

But it's true. I was fighting a mind game with the devil and he was winning.

I had accepted Jesus as my savior at the age of five, thus I knew I didn't need to be saved.

That didn't change the fact that something was causing me to think terrible thoughts.

False thoughts.

Un-pure thoughts.

Evil thoughts.

Sinful thoughts.

Most of these thoughts consisted of hatred toward people I truly loved.

I didn't want to, but I was telling myself that I hated my grandparents, my family, and my friends.

How could I think these things? I was only seven. I couldn't make sense of it.

I tried battling them on my own, which didn't work.

I thought they would eventually go away, but they didn't.

Finally, I went to my parents about it. I told them how confused and upset I was.

I knew deep down in my heart these thoughts weren't true, but I couldn't stop thinking them.

They helped me understand I was fighting a losing battle. That these thoughts would only get worse as time went on unless I asked the Lord for help.

After much praying and wisdom-seeking, the Lord showed them something that would be helpful.

They instructed me to read Philippians 4:4-9 daily.

"Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.

Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.

Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you." Philippians 4:4-9

I read this passage over and over again for weeks. One day, I realized those thoughts weren't there anymore. I was no happier. My thoughts were true, pure, and righteous.

God's word had cleansed and purified my thoughts.

"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:" Philippians 2:5

I want to encourage you. If you're struggling with false thoughts, you're not alone.

Don't let these false thoughts win.

Don't let them change who you are as a person!

Your thoughts don't have to be pure evil to be wrong.

Even the smallest false thought will lead to destruction mentally.

I know how it changes a person's heart and mind when their thoughts aren't true.

It's discouraging, and sometimes even depressing.

We can't live our lives like this.

Having our thoughts right will change our everyday life.

Reading this passage of scripture daily, and committing it to your heart, will help tremendously.

God's word will always be the remedy for false thoughts.

Don't wait until it's too late. Start changing your thoughts today!
