Several years back, the Lord spoke to me through a verse in Exodus. I was doing my devotions one morning and Exodus 14:14 really stuck out to me. Sometimes we read through our Bible trying to check it off a to do list and we forget to stop and allow the Lord to teach us something. I know I had read through this passage a dozen times if not more. It was only then I realized what it truly said: "The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." Wow! I was touched by that. Never before had I stopped and payed attention to that. Though I was aware of the fact God would fight my battles, I hadn't reached that point in my life where it actually meant something. I began to think of all the times I had tried to fight my own battles. How many times I was stressed because my plan wasn't working. How long I would try to struggle through the pain without asking for His help. All of this time I wasted trying to hold my peace in the hard times when I could have had peace all along. I had heard many people say they had a life verse or passage they would cling to in times of trouble. In that moment of self reflection I understood what they meant. Since that day, I have committed Exodus 14:14 to heart and it has become my life verse. Every time I would think of fighting on my own that verse would play over and over again in my mind. Every moment I wanted to speak my peace He would gently remind me to hold it and let Him fight.
I wanted to share this today because, I know I'm not the only one who has struggled with trying to fight battles on my own. I'm not perfect by any means. I still have days where I forget to ask the Lord for help. But, this verse has been such a life changer for me.
I often find myself worrying less about how to fight my battles and asking God to instead.
Battles come in many different shapes and sizes. They're not just those ones that everyone sees and hears about. They're inward, physical, spiritual, sometimes even emotional. They can be small things we face every day like when the flesh doesn't want to get up in the morning. When we need to spend time with God but put other things first. When our body has pain and sickness that just wont go away. When someone hurts you with their unkind words. When the economy is failing and you can't even afford gas. When the world tries to dictate to us how we should live. All of these are battles no matter how big or small. We will each face them at some point in our lives. It's up to us to choose how those battles are fought and whether or not we will hold our peace in hard times. I know it may be cliche but, it's true. GOD'S GOT THIS! Stop trying to fight for yourself. Rather remember, "The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace." Exodus 14:14
Q: What does it mean to hold your peace?
A: Be silent about a matter
This can be hard for us sometimes but it must be done.
