I know this is a shorter blog, but I have a little writers block and didn't want to skip posting today.
I have wanted to write about this subject for a while now because I feel like it's something we all struggle with. I am just sharing a few quick thoughts on this matter.
What is patience?
Patience is the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset. To our sinful flesh, this is not an easy task. We don't automatically have patience in situations where it's hard to have patience. We often revert to anger or aggravation when things aren't going as smoothly as we'd like.
Ecclesiastes 7:9 "Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools."
Hastiness, anger, and wrath will only worsen the situation.
It is said that patience attracts happiness. It brings light to a tough situation.
If one person choices patience over anger, you'll normally find that others will too.
Patience can be exercised in a multitude of situations. Maybe you had something happen that wasn't planned and you need to have the patience to accept it. It could be that you have suddenly come to a troublesome point in life and need the patience to get through it. In that moment of tension, fear, and the unexpected, we must learn to show good character by having patience.
One of my favorite quotes is by John Quincy Adams which states, "Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish."
You see, it is ultimately up to you to determine the outcome of a tough situation.
Having patience and remembering to not get angry or upset will lead that difficult moment to a calm.
That obstacle that you are facing can become a tiny speck if you choose patience over anger.
It's so easy to spew hateful words in a stressful situation, but patience helps to avoid irritation and hurtful words toward others.
When we don't have patience, we cause a bad environment for those around us.
Don't be hasty in hard times. Have patience. A patient-filled life will have less strife.
Proverbs 15:18 "A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife."
